Michael J. Finnegan was a highly successful student athlete at Monroe-Woodbury High School. The scholarship was founded after his death in 1990.
Since then, 49 different M-W student athletes have been awarded over $501,000.
The MJF Scholarship is considered the largest, privately funded scholarships in New York State. The scholarship is awarded to M-W football players displaying excellence in the classroom, on the field and in their community. Eligible student athletes must attain a minimum score of 1200 on the SAT exams, maintain an overall three year B+ average, display a sense of civic responsibility through volunteer work in their school or community and be a key contributor to the M-W varsity football program.
The MJF Scholarship Fund is administered by 16 local businessmen and educators.
In order to continue his legacy, the Michael J. Finnegan Scholarship Inc., a recognized 501(c)3 non profit organization, supports his dream by allowing students to strive to reach one's full potential while succeeding in the classroom, on the playing field and in life.
